Defeated by the Barbarians in 450AD.

The mighty Roman Empire finally was defeated by the Barbarians in 450AD.

But what led to the Empire degrading to such a weakened condition?

They drank quite a bit of wine which was stored in lead containers giving them lead poisoning.

Their food and favorite Steak was marinated in a grape concentrate thus giving more lead poisoning.

Their cosmetics were made from a white powder which forms on lead.

In all they probably had 20 milligrams lead input on a daily basis thus leading to physical and mental deterioration which may explain some of the bazar behavior of Nero, Caligula, and Claudius.
